New Acrylic Adhesive Maxlok
Announcing a new acrylic adhesive with versatile substrate bonding capabilities manufactured by the LORD Corporation. This cutting edge technology allows surfaces to be mated more than once allowing for a more forgiving and user friendly application process. For use in various industries such as; solar, transportation, shipping and construction. The new Maxlok acrylic adhesive comes in three cure speeds using glass bead technology to optimize the bond line thickness. The optional cure speeds offer more flexibility when dealing with seasonal temperatures and optimal dispensing ability. The Maxlok is available in gray to blend more easily with metals and works in a broad range of temperatures (-40 to +300 Fahrenheit).
“This adhesive provides a low-cost alternative with superior performance in applications involving welding, riveting or other traditional mechanical fastening methods, especially in extreme temperature environments subject to high impact or high peel loads.“Maxlok is a premiere metal bonding system with superior performance across various substrates, which provides improved efficiencies and flexibility within customers’ manufacturing processes,” said Carlos Cruz, LORD Market Manager, Product Assembly Adhesives and Coatings, Americas Region. We have already seen great success using this adhesive in armored vehicles, motor coaches and trailers.”
According to Cruz, structural adhesive bonding is an established joining method that is proven in a variety of end-use markets – including more than 50 million cars, trucks, specialty vehicles and boats worldwide. The benefits of structural bonding have been widely touted for decades and are best summarized building a better product, faster, more simply and with less cost. When compared to mechanical fasteners and welding, structural adhesives widely distribute stresses, act as a sealant, reduce noise and vibration, offer excellent durability, help prevent corrosion and maintain the original mill finish quality of the exterior surface of thin panels. Adhesives also offer a lower cost option to traditional joining methods, decrease the margin of error and improve manufacturing processes and final products.
Superior performance has been achieved on multiple substrates, in particular galvanized steel.Intended for use in demanding applications such as transportation, wind and solar energy, shipping, specialty construction and the recreational/specialty vehicle industries, Maxlok has been validated through multiple bond and peel strength tests, outperforming competing products as well as traditional mechanical fastening methods. A flexible and process-friendly solution, Maxlok offers high adhesion strength without the need for a primer, which saves time and money. As compared to competing products, Maxlok offers better environmental performance, salt spray and humidity performance. Further, the acrylic adhesive defies dilute acids, alkalis, solvents, greases, oils, moisture, salt spray and weathering, while providing excellent resistance to UV exposure.
Cost savings can be significant: while welding requires skilled operators, bonding simply requires good operators. For companies interested in switching to adhesives, LORD offers a cost modeling tool that enables users to detail specific applications and requirements in order to determine how much they will save by the transition. Henkel introduces a Ground-Breaking “high-temp” Conductive Film
Henkel has developed Emerson & Cuming CF3366, an unprecedented film technology that offers a powerful alternative to traditional conductive materials, progressing the performance of electrically conductive film technology.
Emerson & Cuming CF3366 is a high adhesion strength electrically conductive film formulated for electrical,
thermal and mechanical assembly applications. The material delivers outstanding adhesion at elevated temperatures, offers high electrical conductivity and provides for uniform and void-free bondlines. In addition, the low temperature, quick cure capabilities of Emerson & Cuming CF3366 ensure maximum process flexibility and ease-of-use. All of these adhesive properties combine to ensure reliable RF ground plane performance even in extreme environmental conditions.
In the past, electrically conductive interface materials such as solder, thermal greases and conductive films have been used for RF grounding applications. However, film materials have emerged as the most robust electrically conductive products because of their ability to promote superior grounding function, consistent processing during assembly and deliver void-free bondlines over a very large area. Conductive films also deliver better RF performance with minimized losses and distortion of high frequency digital signals, while maintaining low impedance to the ground plane. New requirements, however, dictate that conductive films provide all of these proven benefits in addition to delivering reliable bonding at both room temperature and elevated temperatures.
Certain uses in military/defense and other industries have progressed toward smaller, more involved and higher frequency devices. Conductive adhesives must address these new technology demands by offering stable bonding even under extreme environmental aging. Traditional conductive adhesives are less stable at higher temperatures so are not effective for these applications. Henkel’s Emerson & Cuming CF3366, however, has been formulated specifically to comply with higher temperature environments.
Allowing application at high frequency, Emerson & Cuming CF3366 holds a powerful adhesion at elevated temperatures and provides improved mechanical stability. When tested against a well-known, commercial conductive film, Emerson & Cuming CF3366 emerged as the most robust solution, delivering superior adhesion at elevated temperatures even under harsh environmental conditions, better processing through lower curing temperature and a shorter curing time, and superior performance after exposure to moisture sensitivity level conditions.
Emerson & Cuming CF3366 provides what the experts in many fields have been in need of, offering all of the traditional advantages of past conductive film technologies with the added benefit of high temperature stability and resistance.
